Catalogue includes 'hidden gems'
26 January 2016
Amongst the 20,000-plus world-class safety products in its 2016 Big Book catalogue, Arco says there are some truly 'hidden gems' that are designed to keep workers safe in the electrical, engineering and utility industries.

With over 1.6 million kilometres of underground pipes and cabling in the UK, it’s estimated that utility companies alone dig around 4 million holes in or around them every year. Arco offers a range of Pipe and Cable Location Equipment from C. Scope.
User error is a main reason why pipes and cables are hit regularly by contractors caused by either using the detection system incorrectly or not taking enough care during the excavation. Arco’s Cable Detectors use a dynamic swing sensor which helps to ensure that the detector is being used correctly and is more accurate at detecting underground utilities. As well as incorporating a data logging system which stores usage to help with future training needs, Arco’s detectors combine an automatic daily self-test which negates the need to have the detectors annually calibrated, and therefore saves on future costs.
Another product within the Big Book is the new Safedig Shocksafe Shovel. This has been developed in conjunction with Northern Gas Networks and features a thicker cutting edge. Over 60,000 cable strike accidents occurred in 2011, and the Safedig Shocksafe Shovel incorporates a blunter end that significantly reduces the risk of cutting through a live cable, preventing a live strike and major injuries.
