90 years of training

16 July 2018

Since 1928 RRC has helped more than a million students worldwide achieve professional success through distance and online learning. Now, celebrating its 90th anniversary, the company continues to provide customisable, cost-effective, HSE courses.

RRC’s founder David Young was working in a bank when he was asked by his colleagues for help with their banking exams. Young's solution was to develop a set of study materials specially geared to the syllabus and examinations that people could study in their spare time. The company's first home-study course produced excellentresults.

With input from university professors and lecturers, David went on to develop correspondence courses for a wide range of professional exams and by the mid 1930s The Rapid Results College had become an established name.

Post-war

After the war, the company experienced rapid growth as people returning to normal life were anxious to gain qualifications. Wide ranges of vocational courses, including banking, accountancy, marketing, credit management and purchasing and supply were offered, together with A and O Levels and University of London Law Degrees.

Throughout the ‘50s and ‘60s RRC continued to expand globally. Distance learning enabled students in remote regions and Commonwealth countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Trinidad and Tobago to obtain outstanding results.

The ‘80s and ‘90s saw continuing growth of interest in open and distance learning in both the publicly-funded education sector and professional bodies. RRC joined forces with the University of Durham and Kingston Polytechnic (now University) to help them introduce distance learning courses.

Reinvention

In the competitive environment of the mid ‘90s, RRC rationalised its range of courses to concentrate on business training. It quickly became one of the leading international providers of health and safety training, expanding it to classroom as well as distance learning.

At the start of the new millennium, RRC Business Training embraced e-learning.

Since 2000 there has been an expansion into the Middle East, North Africa and Georgia, along with the building of a network of more than 20 partners throughout the world.

The Young family continue to be involved and RRC is well-positioned to continue providing high quality HSE training for the next 90 years.
