Clean it with competence, says the WJA

03 March 2020

New training is being introduced to boost the competency of operatives using high pressure water jetting.

The Water Jetting Association (WJA) is developing a Level 2 diploma in competent water jetting and a new course for managers.

Water jetting is used increasingly for cleaning structures and equipment, to prepare surfaces during construction, for precision cutting and for hydrodemolition.

The WJA is a leading provider of high pressure water jetting training; its new City & Guilds Level 2 diploma is designed to give greater assurance that water jetting services are safe and effective.

John Jones, Chairman of the WJA’s training and safety committee, says: “Even water from basic pressure washing systems can penetrate skin. The results can be catastrophic long-term injury, or even death.

“It is, therefore, very advantageous for employers to demonstrate, through qualifications held, that their teams aren’t just trained but competent to carry out water jetting.”

The WJA is also introducing a new City & Guilds-accredited water jetting management and leadership course for people who have oversight of water jetting operations.

John Jones adds:  “Access to water jetting systems, and their range of uses, has broadened greatly, so senior managers must be able to demonstrate they are controlling risks.”
