DuPont Nomex Asturias facility achieves ISCC PLUS certification

28 October 2025

DUPONT HAS announced that its Nomex production facility at the Asturias manufacturing plant in Tamón received certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS).

This achievement demonstrates DuPont’s commitment to advance its sustainability goals and build capabilities to offer trusted Nomex solutions made with sustainable raw materials globally.

This achievement marks a key milestone in advancing the company’s acting on climate and enabling circular economy sustainability goals. ISCC PLUS certification enables the verification of a product’s sustainability based on the entire supply chain, from sourcing raw materials to production and distribution, using the mass balance approach, in a manner that is robust, transparent and reliable.

One of the key aspects of ISCC PLUS certification is that it helps enable the reduction of carbon footprint of products and the gradual replacement of fossil fuel based raw materials with more sustainable alternatives while promoting the transition to a more circular economy.

"Nomex is a trusted brand known for being incredibly durable and providing inherently flame-resistant protection that’s built into the fiber and can’t be washed out or worn away, making it an ideal solution for a range of end markets such as utilities, manufacturing, emergency response, automotive, and more," said Matt Reinhardt, VP and general manager, DuPont Aramids. "This important integration of ISCC PLUS certification in the production of Nomex aligns with our dedication to meet and exceed not only our sustainability goals but also those of our customers in each of those end markets - we remain committed to advancing our commitment to safety and sustainability."

Achieving ISCC certification builds on DuPont’s progress reported in the company’s recently released 2025 Sustainability Report, including a 55% reduction of Scopes 1, 2 and Scope 3 emissions versus their respective baselines, surpassing DuPont’s 2030 goal and outperforming the expectations of the Paris Accord 1.5°C ambition.

Since 2022, Nomex has been produced with renewable electricity, through the purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs) and Guarantees of Origin (GOs) to match the energy consumed in DuPont’s operations annually. Additionally, the Asturias site partnered with ENGIE on a 12MW photovoltaic array that came online earlier this year, demonstrating a commitment to onsite solar energy. ISCC PLUS certification in the production of Nomex at the Asturias manufacturing facility advances DuPont’s strategy of further reducing Scope 3 emissions and working with global supply chains on a more circular economy.
