Grease‑pumping lip seal for wind turbine main shaft bearings

WALKERSELE X-Gen Helix from sealing experts James Walker represents a new generation concept for sealing grease media on the shaft and slew bearings of the largest wind turbines. Its helical design actively pumps grease back towards the bearing and away from atmosphere, whilst an inbuilt dust lip acts to contain grease and prevent contamination ingress.
The new design has been validated through a stringent internal testing programme and by customers on their own full-size test rigs. X-Gen Helix has been validated to operate at dynamic radial eccentricities of up to +/- 2mm (1/16”) at surface speeds of up to 2 m/s, whilst fatigue testing has shown consistent response even at high speed, ensuring the sealing lip remains in contact with the sealing surface at all times.
Available in endless or Walkersele OSJ format for on-site joining, the Helix product has no maximum diameter limit and can be retro-fitted to any 32 x 25 mm standard radial seal housing.
