Are manufacturers ready for ESOS Phase 2?

03 May 2019

New research has revealed that although manufacturers could make significant cost and carbon savings through energy reporting, many organisations are failing to act on their ESOS recommendations.

With just months to go until the ESOS Phase 2 deadline (5th December 2019), many businesses will be working hard to complete their energy audits and identify areas to save energy and cut costs. But a new report from energy consultants Inenco has found that manufacturers aren’t implementing their energy saving recommendations, which means they’re missing out on savings.

The report combines primary research of business energy professionals with insight from 320 Phase 1 energy audits to reveal fresh attitudes to energy and how manufacturers fare against other industries. The research shows that 60% of all savings identified in the audits were attributed to manufacturers, which highlights a significant potential for the sector to make direct savings to the bottom line through energy efficiency.

However, only 50% of manufacturers have implemented their Phase 1 recommendations, and over half of those surveyed were yet to commence their Phase 2 assessments.
