Transport energy use event
13 October 2019
SGS, the inspection, verification, testing and certification organisation, has joined forces with the Energy Managers Association (EMA) to host a new event that examines the key considerations when managing transport energy usage.

Effective Management of Transport Energy Use takes place at Chadwick Court on London’s South Bank on 22nd October from 9.30am to 3.00pm, and attendees will be rewarded with three EMA accredited continuing professional development (CPD) hours.
Achieving energy efficiency in transport is a high priority for organisations aiming to reduce their impact on the environment, meet corporate social responsibility goals and achieve regulatory compliance. A wide range of techniques including management actions, operational planning, innovative technologies and ISO 50001 certification can be used to fulfil this objective and Effective Management of Transport Energy Use will feature expert speakers who can offer guidance on this important issue.
The event will be opened by Lord Redesdale, chief executive officer of the EMA, who will outline current carbon reduction initiatives such as the Road to Zero Strategy, the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework, and the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS). Lord Redesdale will be followed by Rob Anderson, programme manager and senior fleet specialist at Cenex, who will highlight the key considerations for managing transport energy and improving efficiency in this area. His session will also consider the links between transport energy and the SECR and ESOS regulatory requirements.
With the majority of companies now looking to improve their environmental credentials and better manage their energy use, SGS is able to support its clients on this journey. Implementing an energy management system (EnMS) that is certified to ISO 50001 is an invaluable part of this process and helps organisations achieve compliance with energy regulations including ESOS and SECR.
After a buffet lunch, Terry Coyle, ISO 50001 product manager at SGS, will explain how this standard supports organisations in the transport sector, and demonstrate the ways in which it can help to integrate energy management into operational strategies and drive continual improvement. Part of his presentation will include a case study on how this was achieved for an organisation that had significant transport energy expenditure.
The event will conclude with a panel discussion with the speakers from the day, where delegates will have the opportunity to ask questions, followed by a networking session.
Effective Management of Transport Energy Use is the latest joint initiative between SGS and the EMA, which aims to raise the profile of energy management throughout the business world. Terry Coyle concluded, ‘As a Corporate Patron of the EMA we share a desire to improve sustainability across all sectors, including transport, and help companies to define and implement best practice standards. I’m looking forward to presenting at this event and highlighting the vital role an ISO 50001 certified EnMS can play in enhancing sustainability.’
