When it experienced production problems with its optical screen meshes, a reverse osmosis plant from ELGA Process Water proved a cost effective solution, improving product rejection by about 70%.

Blackened copper mesh screens are made to a high tolerance and the final rinse is critical to quality. In spite of softening the hard mains water, the rinse left streaks on the surface, resulting in a lot of unusable product. ELGA's solution consisted of a selectron softener and carbon filter followed by a MidiRO 750 reverse osmosis unit.

This softens the water, and the membranes remove over 95% of dissolved salts, along with any particulate material and even bacteria.

The five models in the MidiRO range produce 90 to 800L/h of permeate and have a 1µm prefilter.
