The Kawasaki Plant of Fuji Electric Systems Co makes generators in the geothermal field of energy, delivering some of the world's largest steam turbines. With the growing concern for the global environment, there is a demand for even higher steam turbine performance to achieve reductions in CO2.

Turbines use three-dimensional blades which are optimally designed to match the flow of steam and have a curve in the circumferential direction.Measurement of the blades can prove time consuming and costly.

The Konica Minolta Range 7 can be used to measure shape data, axial alignment and the results fed into a CAM system to determine optimum matching path. The system also works accurately on glossy surfaces without the use of sprays. It is said to shorten measuring time, increase use of machinery, reduce costs by eliminating special cross-section gauges and improve measurement quality.
