Biomass fuels generate energy by burning readily available renewable sources such as food crop residues, certain grassy plants, wood and animal matters.

Wood products such as wood chip and wood pellets are the most commonly used biomass fuels although moisture can be a problem with some wood chip fuels.

While the use of domestic and small commercial biomass boilers are now widely accepted, interest in their larger industrial counterparts is also on the increase as companies and organisations come to appreciate the ecological benefits of burning renewable fuels and begin to take advantage of Government schemes and subsidies that are available, says the company.

Byworth has recently supplied two large 8000kg/hr wood pellet-burning steam boilers for a Devon based dairy food company that had previously been operating on heavy oil.

Also in a pilot study CO2 Sense Yorkshire, a business support and market development programme, last year commissioned a Byworth SFX 2000 boiler which is now available on lease and allows organisations to trial wood fuel technology. The boiler has been installed within a mobile plant room, making it easy to connect up on site.

Through in-house expertise and research and development Byworth Boilers is committed to being at the forefront of advancements in boiler technology that will lead to a 'greener' future.
