Full steam ahead for boiler hire fleet

According to managing director, Peter Baldwin, an on-going development programme is key to the success of this service.  He said, "We are committed to offering our customers a modern hire boiler fleet and this commitment has seen us invest £500k per annum in new units over the last few years. It is an investment we intend to continue, for it has paid dividends in a number of ways.”

Byworth reports that its boiler hire market share has increased significantly. The company attributes this primarily to the reliability and fuel efficiency of the fleet. For example, it has evidence that the latest Yorkshireman 2 boiler can save up to £100K on an annual fuel bill.

Another result of the investment programme has seen more customers commit to long term hire instead of investing in new plant. The obvious advantage of this policy is that it reduces the need to find large amounts of capital and provides companies with greater flexibility in terms of boiler output requirements and pressure on site facilities. All servicing, maintenance and statutory inspections are taken care of by Byworth. This applies not just in the short term but also in the medium and long term.  

The long term hire option has been taken up by a diverse range of boiler users all over the UK – from the Devon coast to Morayshire in Scotland. These include food manufacturers, petro-chemical plants, energy providers, feed mills, and hospital projects.

Case study 

One of Byworth Boiler Hire's long term contracts resulted from an enquiry about providing more than 20,000kg/h of steam to ensure the smooth decommissioning of a large industrial site in the Midlands. Following the initial quotation and a number of meetings an order was placed for Byworth to provide five dual fuel trailerised hire boilers, coupled with operator training and 24h call-out cover.

The final contract was based on adhering to rigorous site operation restrictions and Environment Agency emission constraints. The five packaged boilers supplied comprised a range of Byworth’s highly efficient Yorkshire and Yorkshireman 2 boilers, all of which were prepared to meet the latest HSE INDG 436 and Safed BG01 guidance notes for the safe operation of boilers.

Prior to delivery and installation Byworth Boiler Hire prepared the five dual fuel boilers and compiled a consignment stock of spares large enough to ensure smooth running and minimal down time due to minor component faults.

Following delivery, the boilers were connected to the newly designed and installed manifold supporting all services and were quickly up and running. Initially all five boilers were needed to cope with process demand, but after three months two of the boilers were de-commissioned, leaving three boilers on site for the remaining period of the contract, which ran for a further nine months.

Byworth’s mobile hire boilers can be transported quickly and easily and be up and running on site within hours. Trailerised or containerised boilers are suitable for long term hire, with the containerised units offering a solution where space is tight and security an issue. The de-mountable fleet is designed for the smaller user looking for speedy delivery. In addition Byworth also offers fuel tanks, steam hoses, and pressure reducing stations.  

A new product now being offered by Byworth Hire is a special steam meter which can be hired on a weekly basis. The use of temporary steam metering has been instrumental in helping end users to make quick decisions for both new boiler sales and long term hire boiler sizing.
