When Remploy needed to replace
existing T12 8 foot twin fluorescent
tube units that used old mechanic
ballasts, tests showed the units used
239.545kW. Remploy tested the Savex
ESL (Energy Saving Lighting) T5
Cover Plate unit, which incorporates
4 foot T5 tubes in line to create the 8
foot lighting unit with a twin
formation - with electronic ballasts.
This improved lighting levels and eliminated the strobe effect, making the workplace more comfortable.
The new T5 tube installation with warm start uses 125.6kW, saving about 45% in energy. The Savex Cover Plate system has allowed Remploy to use the old fittings, cutting down on capital, labour and rewiring costs. The changeover of 110 units took less than two weeks without interrupting production and had a pay back of 1.18 years, saving 15.311t of CO2 per annum.
