A sealing system for infrared emitters developed by Heraeus Noblelight has been granted IP65 certification. The sealing system allows the use of infrared systems for outdoor heating processes, where it will protect against the ingress of dirt or spray water.

The infrared emitters are made from hard-wearing, shock-resistant quartz glass, so are well suited for outdoor applications. The electrical connectors for such emitters are fed into the connection box via a special seal. The system underwent testing by VDE, the German Certification body and proved totally sealed to dust and spray, conforming with and satisfying VDE 0710 DIN40050, relating to IP65.

Heraeus says infrared offers benefits in terms of its high efficiency and heat transfer capacity, fast response, heat transfer without contact and ability to match the IR emitter to the product in terms of optimum IR wavelength and emitter shape.
