Demag Cranes' subsidiary, Gottwald Port Technology, has supplied two identical G HMH 750 DS Mobile Harbour Hoppers to the Port of Tyne. Each has a capacity of 750t/h. They are used to unload bulk carriers with cargoes of wood pellets. The order follows the introduction by Gottwald Port Technology, of various types and sizes of hopper to its product range.

Brian Reeve, chief technical officer at Port of Tyne, says: “Unloading wood pellets is a demanding task and we strive to develop the best practical means of handling this material, while fully meeting all legislative requirements.”

The hoppers are of robust steel construction and have dust suppression systems, different types of which are available as options. An environmentally aware power supply and efficient drive technology are incorporated. All energy needed to operate the hopper is generated onboard in an efficient diesel-powered generator.
