Image analysis capability enhanced

01 August 2013

Zwick Roell Indentec, a UKAS accredited supplier of automatic and semi-automatic Vickers Hardness testing machines, has added a new software option for image analysis - Vision Lite.

This latest software enables a Vickers hardness tester to provide automatic measurement of grains and phase analysis which is said to maximise the value of the hardness tester optics.

Vision Lite completely removes subjective operator influence from the analysis function, which means that result repeatability and reproducibility is improved. Any operator, anywhere in the world, will produce comparable results from the same prepared metal surface and the analytical process is also speeded up, boosting productivity.

The company’s ZHµ.HD Vickers indentation measuring software, in combination with the new software, means that the Indentec hardness testers’ lenses replaces a standalone microscope, normally used for quality control analysis of metals.

Software routines are available for automatic grain sizing to ASTM E112, multiphase volume and area fraction analysis (porosity) to ASTM E563 and particle sizing. In addition, Vision Lite will facilitate inclusions ratings to ASTM E45 (Methods A and D) and ASTM E1245 (Rail Industry), coating thickness to ASTM B487 and dendritic arm spacing (DAS). When used for analysing cast iron, the software complies with the requirements of ASTM A247, ASTM FVII and ISO 945.
