Productivity up, costs down
18 June 2014
Coca Cola Enterprises Norway has reduced its maintenance and energy costs and boosted productivity since turning to Infor EAM and its partner, Prevas
In order to adhere to world class maintenance standards, Coca Cola Enterprises Norway embarked upon a preventative maintenance programme back in 2006 and since then it has worked diligently towards its objective of best practice in asset management, explains André Nilsen Ibenholdt, head of Utilities & Facilities at Coca Cola Enterprises in Norwegian Lørenskog.
Key to the success of the programme are the following:
• The integration between Infor EAM and the company's SAP ERP system
• A simple and logical structure for the machines. It took a significant amount of time to build the structure manually, but it has paid dividends as all information relating to the equipment are now in one place.
• Reorganisation and planning – the role of maintenance has been given a more defined role in the organisation, and Infor EAM has made it easier to plan and monitor what is done, where it is done, and when it is done.
• Using KPIs and graphical visualisation both in Infor EAM and in Qlik, analysis and evaluation of maintenance activities has become easy, allowing leadership to view information and follow up the maintenance.
André Nilsen Ibenholdt comments: "The analysis and reporting capabilities within Infor EAM are particularly impressive as they enable us to identify opportunities for improvement, which in turn help us work towards achieving world class maintenance."
Extending the benefits
In order to extend the benefits and encourage greater user adoption, Coca Cola Enterprises Norway also deployed Prevas EAM Connector from Infor’s partner, Prevas, so that Infor EAM could be accessed via a simple and intuitive interface on tablets and smartphones.
"Simplicity and speed is crucial as the system relies upon employees reporting even the smallest of errors and providing updates on maintenance activities. Through using the Prevas EAM Connector on an iPad, users have access to all information and basic functions contained within Infor EAM. Where necessary they can take pictures of equipment so that faults can be reported quickly, easily and efficiently," adds André Nilsen Ibenholdt.
Energy savings
Coca Cola Enterprises Norway has also managed to reduce energy consumption by 43% since 2010 with the help of an energy tracking project implemented with the support of Prevas (formerly Psiam ), a third party solution called Gurusoft, and Infor EAM.
When the factory was built in 2012, a transition from using returnable bottles to recycled bottles was made. With that change, management expected that energy consumption would increase for the new product lines.
At this stage, Coca Cola and Prevas initiated a project which looked at ways to reduce energy consumption instead.
André Nilsen Ibenholdt explains: "By streamlining the collection and analysis of data, we could focus on simple measurements and actions to achieve results – such as better ventilation, turning off machines that were not in use and extinguishing the lights."
The project was highly successful as energy consumption in the new production facility decreased by 43%, which equates to several £million savings in energy costs.
Through adopting a preventive maintenance strategy, Coca Cola Enterprises Norway reached production efficiency levels that resulted in them becoming one of Coca Cola's best production facilities in Europe while still achieving lower production-, maintenance- and energy costs.
