Transition to IE3
22 July 2014
On 1st January 2015 Regulation (EC) 640/2009 implementing Ecodesign Directive 2005/32/EC means that efficiency requirements on electric motors in the European Union will become stricter.

As of then, motors with a performance between 7.5 and 375kW designed for continuous operation with a constant load must comply with the energy efficiency standard IE3. Alternatively, motors that meet the IE2 efficiency level and are equipped with a variable speed drive can be used.
In order to make the changeover easy for machine and plant manufacturers, the dimensions of NORD Drivesystems’ IE3 motors will remain largely identical to those of IE2 models, allowing for retrofitting without any modifications to machines and plants.
- Lightweight heavy-duty drive systems
- Smart drive concepts for intra-logistics
- Plug & play drives for conveying tasks
- Long-life, wash-down drive technology for the beverage industry
- Intelligent IP69K drives
- Additional sizes
- Smart drive assumes local control
- Integrated PLC for frequency inverters
- IE3 requirements now covers smaller motors
- Large industrial gear unit in a one-piece housing
