Winning ways
10 July 2014
On 17th June, industry leaders and organisations gathered at Safety & Health Expo to find out the winners of this year’s BSIF Safety Awards. We now place the spotlight on the winners in the afterglow of their successes.
Innovation
The Product Innovation Award is presented to a company for a new and innovative product that contributes to improvements in occupational safety and health. The winner for 2014 is JSP for its Press-to-Check respirator. The respirator is a quick and simple way for the wearer to immediately test the integrity of the mask seal once it has been placed on the face. With Press-to-check users can assure themselves that the critical respiratory protective equipment is correctly positioned and adjusted prior to entering the hazard area.
Excellence
The Safety Excellence Award is based on case studies submitted by members of the BSIF that recognise major improvements in occupational safety in the previous year. This year’s winner was Parker Merchanting for the work it carried out with Carillion WSP.
Commenting on the award, Dominic Proctor, general manager at Parker Merchanting said: "We are extremely proud to be winners of this year’s Safety Excellence Award as it highlights the improvements we have made to our service offering and how we have added value to our customers.
"The work we carried out with Carillion WSP involved an in-depth trial of a number of different Polyco gloves, in the same scenario they would face out on the road in order to determine the best hand protection for the workers.
"This particular case study illustrated how we are not simply box tickers, that we listen to how our customers are currently using their PPE and see where improvements can be made by offering tailor made solutions.”
Proctor continued: "Winning the BSIF Safety Excellence award enhances our credibility within the industry and highlights the importance of PPE and how working with a company that is an expert in its field can be very beneficial.”
Service
The Service Award is presented to companies in the safety field offering exceptional and innovative service solutions and is voted by the entrants’ own customers. This year, Guarsdman won the award for the third time.
Mike Sargeant, managing director at Guardsman said: "Winning the BSIF Service Award means a lot to the company, as it shows that our customers are pleased with the service we are offering and delivering to them. As a relatively small company we are able to make decisions quickly and tailor solutions to the needs and wants of our customers.”
Guardsman is a family run organisation that has been supplying major industrial customers and utilities with PPE for more than 40 years. Specialising in the distribution of PPE across a wide selection of industries, it ensures customers are equipped with the correct and highest quality safety gear.
Commenting on this year’s Safety Awards, Alan Murray said: "It has been great to see so many companies from the health and safety industry come together to recognise the products and services that are available to help improve health and safety in the workplace.
"The calibre and number of entrants we had this year has been impressive and I look forward to welcoming the same level of entrants to next year’s Safety Awards.”
