Chance to look, listen and learn

21 August 2014

A wide range of European medtech companies will convene in October in the medtech hub of Galway to discuss latest developments, technological trends and regulatory issues

MEDTEC Ireland takes place on the 1st and 2nd October at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway. For the first time, an Irish Minister of State will open the event. In his keynote address, Damien English, Minister of State at the Departments of Education and Skills and Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation With Special Responsibility for Skills, Research and Innovation, will address how to promote research, innovation and growth in the Irish medical technology sector.

Free conference programme

Looming regulatory changes in Europe have many medtech companies on edge: What will the revision of the medical device directive mean for them? What is the timeframe for UDI implementation? Experts such as Kath Clarke from NAMSA Medvance will address these questions. Conference sessions will also focus on R&D, risk management, materials selection, technological convergence and a range of additional hot topics.

Breakfast meeting

Faisal Sharif from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and Darren Mylotte of Galway University Hospitals will start the second day by providing an overview of current cardiovascular innovations and 3-D imaging techniques during a compelling, cardio-focused breakfast meeting.

Start-up focus

An entire track of the conference will be dedicated to innovative medtech start-ups. Industry experts will give advice on clinical and regulatory aspects, fund raising and commercialisation strategies. At the new Start-up Academy of Excellence, young businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their innovations.

Exhibitor Innovations Competition

Which company will showcase the most innovative product? Visitors will get to decide who wins the Exhibitor Innovations Competition and can vote for the best exhibit of the show.

Networking opportunities

Finally, what would a trip to Ireland be without paying a visit to a pub? Visitors and exhibitors attending the reception in Kings Head Galway on the evening of the first day will learn how much smoother networking can go with a pint of Guinness in hand.

Chris Edwards, MEDTEC event director, says: "Medical device engineers from all over Ireland will be able to source solutions from leading names in the industry, network with key players and be inspired by the latest innovations. We’ll be leading the charge in the evening with a drinks reception in Galway—conference delegates, show visitors and exhibitors are all welcome to join us.”

All visitors must pre-register. Registration is free at www.medtecireland.com.
