Water and wastewater measurement

23 September 2014

ABB will be showcasing its latest instrumentation and analytical equipment and systems at Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring (WWEM) 2014 on the 5th and 6th November at The International Centre, Telford.

Visitors to the stand will be able to see a fully automated interactive display demonstrating how ABB's technologies can be integrated to help monitor and control water supplies. It features various examples of ABB's instrumentation portfolio controlled by ABB's latest PLC technology with Profibus and Ethernet communications technology.

Amongst the wide range of instruments and analysers on show will be ABB’s AquaMaster 3 flowmeter, featuring WITS technology. Standing for Water Industry Telemetry Standard, WITS is a standardised communication protocol that enables certified instruments in the water industry to communicate over a standard communications infrastructure. Although WITS has been implemented in data loggers, pressure loggers and intelligent RTUs, the AquaMaster 3 is reported to be the first electromagnetic flowmeter to feature integrated WITS protocol support.

ABB says the inclusion of WITS technology within the AquaMaster will open up new possibilities for operation and maintenance. These include the ability to pinpoint potential problems before they escalate, providing operators with the ability to deploy maintenance personnel only where and when necessary, improving asset performance and cutting the cost of ownership.

The benefits of the AquaMaster 3 with WITS will also be covered in a workshop session presented by Dr Ray Keech of ABB. Taking place from 10:00 to 10:30 on Thursday 6th November in room 4, the workshop will be entitled An integrated flow and pressure metering solution with GPRS WITS protocol. It will explain the benefits arising from incorporating WITS technology into an integrated metering solution, including high speed communications, high resolution logger retrieval and the delivery of near real time data to a WITS SCADA Master.

Also on show will be ABB’s CoriolisMaster range of flowmeters, including the compact FCB330 and 350 models.
