Asbestos roadshows ready to roll
29 October 2014
The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) is gearing up for the launch of its 2014 Asbestos Roadshows, which will offer updates on a number of developments in the management and control of asbestos, including the latest on land contamination and the ventilation of asbestos removal enclosures.
The 2014 Asbestos Roadshows will be held in London, Glasgow and Manchester in November and December in association with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The roadshows will reflect specialist developments in the control of risks from asbestos in the workplace, with reference to the second edition of L143, 'Managing and working with asbestos'.
These events are essential for anyone who wants to find out about the latest developments in the ventilation of asbestos removal enclosures. They will also address new developments and the ever increasing interest in the topic of soil contaminated with asbestos.
As work continues to develop a working Code of Practice to deal with land contaminated with asbestos, BOHS has been working on a new suite of asbestos proficiency modules, to add to the existing highly respected P modules, as specified in HSE guidance. These new advanced modules will focus on the investigation of land contaminated with asbestos as well as the analysis of samples taken.
The roadshows will benefit companies who work with asbestos as well as those who advise on control measures. They will also bring analysts up-to-date with developing qualifications and planned changes to the HSE’s Analyst Guide.
Key features of the roadshows will include:
- updated information on the ventilation of asbestos removal enclosures
- the practicalities of achieving the desired airflow for removal enclosures
- forthcoming changes to the Analysts Guide in relation to asbestos in soils
- asbestos in soils – the need for qualifications and proposed qualifications
- identification of contaminated land
- dealing with contaminated land
- UKAS accreditation for soils and analysis.
The dates for the three cities are as follows:
- Glasgow: Thursday 20 November
- London: Tuesday 25 November
- Manchester: Thursday 4 December.
