Cost-efficient DIN-Rail power supply family

19 December 2014

PULS has extended its product range to service new market segments. Applying new techniques and concepts from design to manufacturing, the PIANO series is said to offer reliability, service lifetime and efficiency figures usually only available in higher cost products.

John Tyrrell, MD of PULS UK says: "Despite the low cost design goals, an MTBF of more than 1.4 million hours and efficiencies of 90.5% to 94.5% have been achieved with a minimum service lifetime of typically 40,000h. These innovations have been made possible by a smart single-board design with cost-saving polycarbonate housing by our specialist PULS design team focused on an intelligent design for cost-effective manufacturability. The result is a compact, highly reliable and competitive supply; the 240W version requires a width of just 49mm on the DIN-Rail.”

These new supplies are purely convection-cooled and can operate from -10°C (some units from -25°C) to 70°C. Power derating is typically only required above 55°C. The PIANO series is easy to use because it clicks smoothly onto any standard DIN-Rail and includes large-sized terminals making installation simple and fast. Furthermore, the  series features a DC-OK signal that can be used to monitor the unit’s output voltage.
