Light curtain
03 March 2015
SICK’s deTec2 Core type 2 light curtain is said to bring enhanced standards in performance efficiency, installation ease and reliability for PL c and SIL 1 applications.

"As well as its new bracket system and being able to operate down to -30°, the deTec2 Core has no blind zones,” says Dr Martin Kidman, Sick (UK) safety specialist. "It is extremely easy and quick to set up and commission, without a PC, so the operator gets rapid protection against unsafe access whilst enabling ongoing efficient operation.”
The SICK deTec2 Core offers protective field heights in increments from 300 to 2100mm and a choice of finger and hand (14mm) or hand and person (30mm) resolution providing protection against operator intervention in accordance with EN ISO 13855 to10m. In addition, it complies with performance level ‘c’ (EN ISO 13849), Type 2 (IEC61496) and SIL 1 (IEC61508).
As the deTec2 Core sensor works only in protective mode, configuration and range adjustment is automatic, requiring no additional set-up; diagnostic codes are simple and additional functions can be set up via safety relays, or the SICK Flexi Classic or Flexi Soft safety controllers.
The SICK deTec2 Core benefits from a rugged IP67 enclosure and an operating temperature range from -300 to +550°C guaranteeing operation in harsh conditions and a variety of demanding industrial environments, including low temperature environments.
The SICK deTec2 Core partners the deTec4 Core which is designed for Type 4, SIL3 / PL ‘e’ safety applications.
