Making 'rain and cold' a PPE piece of cake

03 March 2016

W.L. Gore & Associates has put together an easy-to-make recipe, suitable for all, but especially for engineers who need a good all-rounder for foul weather conditions. Hearty and warming, yet lightweight, and guaranteed not to provide a ‘soggy bottom’ or ‘boil in the bag’ results – all year round.

Ingredients:

537 Openreach communication providers

1 technical procurement team

1 Gore rain tower test

A small bunch of Scottish engineers

A large bunch of heavy cable engineers

17,000 GORE-TEX Hi-Vis salopettes and jackets, guaranteed 'fit for purpose' – lightweight, breathable and always the waterproof variety

Lashings of British rain, snow, wind and cold – variable, according to seasonal availability

Method:

  • Take the small bunch of wet and disgruntled Scottish engineers.
  • Add a technical procurement team
  • Introduce GORE-TEX trousers and jackets, insert Scottish Engineers into the high quality garment system, ensuring a sealed fit with all fastenings secured.
  • Test in the Gore rain tower, then expose to outdoor elements for a 12-hour shift, with added stress.
  • Once your testing batch has proved successful, repeat, now with a large bunch of heavy cable engineers.
  • Roll out

Tips and variations:

Vary rain, cold and wind.  Also add sunshine – product alleviates overheating in hot conditions as well as cold.
