Portable flowmeter proves pump performance

15 December 2016

NW Total Engineered Solutions, a manufacturing and engineering company specialising in process equipment packages, performs hydraulic testing of various pump types and regularly uses a Micronics Portaflow 330 flowmeter to test flow and pressure.

Customers ask NW Total to set up the pipework exactly as it is on site, there is no possibility of adding anything in-line such as a positive displacement flowmeter. The Portaflow 330 is non-intrusive and can be strapped onto the outside of pipes without the need to cut into the pipe and is therefore suitable both for evaluating conditions on site and at various NW Total test rigs.

It allows more accurate testing of pumps and systems and crucially allows Matthew Groves, NW Total’s applications engineer to extend this to site conditions. Savings are achieved due to the accurate assessment of a pump’s existing flow rate prior to replacement meaning that the replacement pump is fit-for-purpose and is accurately sized. As the end user makes cost savings down the line, it protects NW Total from costly mistakes with supply.
