Production and storage facility
31 March 2017
Smart-Space, a manufacturer and installer of temporary, semi-permanent and permanent buildings, has completed a permanent production and storage facility for Luxonic at its head office, manufacturing and innovation centre in Basingstoke.

The 35 by 30m facility is a fully insulated, composite-clad steel building, with a 500m2 mezzanine and a double-door unloading area. The building contains racking and bulk storage areas, offices and restrooms, as well as product-orientated wiring cells underneath the mezzanine. Work in the new cells includes creation of luminaires for Asda and continues Luxonic’s rollout of its energy efficient HI-MAX LED systems in Pets at Home buildings across the UK.
Luxonic operations director Alan Ayres said: "We were outgrowing our existing facilities and needed to expand and to improve production efficiency. The new building enables us to do exactly that, and gives our customers the chance to see our products in action at the same time. As well as being a warehouse and a shop floor, the new facility is an excellent showroom for us."
The five-month full design and build project entailed the removal and leveling of an unused car park prior to the building's construction and the creation of new parking facilities after its development.
"Selecting a steel-clad building was down to three main criteria - speed of construction, cost and ability to insulate extremely well," adds Ayres.
