ABB and Alcemy collaborate to bring AI-driven quality control to cement production
30 April 2026
ABB HAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with industrial decarbonisation company Alcemy to explore AI solutions determining cement and concrete quality.

Combining ABB’s automation and process control expertise with Alcemy’s predictive technology, the agreement aims to improve process optimisation while reducing emissions in cement production globally.
Integrating predictive quality insights into plant operations lies at the heart of this collaboration. Alcemy’s solution will extract process and quality data from ABB Knowledge Manager, analyse it using machine learning models, and feed setpoints back to ABB Ability Expert Optimizer. This closed-loop approach is designed to help operators better manage variability by refining product consistency and enhancing overall plant performance.
"Artificial intelligence is becoming an important enabler for the future of cement production," said Bodil Recke, global manager, business unit cement, ABB’s Process Industries division. "Bringing together ABB’s expertise in automation, process control and optimisation with Alcemy’s AI and industry expertise, we aim to help cement producers improve performance while supporting their decarbonisation targets."
With more precise control of production parameters, the collaboration supports more efficient use of raw materials and energy while reducing process variability. By combining domain expertise with emerging technologies, the partnership aims to close the gap between data and process optimisation.
"Working with ABB allows us to bring predictive quality insights closer to plant operations," stated Leopold Spenner, co-founder and CEO at Alcemy. "Together, we want to help the cement industry achieve more consistent results - improving efficiency while reducing environmental impact."
As part of the collaboration, ABB and Alcemy are establishing a framework to explore technical and commercial synergies, including the development of a joint value proposition for cement and ready-mix concrete customers.
