Light curtains with body protection

03 February 2019

In addition to finger and hand protection, the latest light curtains from Pilz – PSENopt II – are suitable for body protection to the highest safety category PL e.

Pilz says that robust design, fast diagnostics and comprehensive accessories, mean access to hazardous areas can be safeguarded economically.

With a protected field height to 1500mm, and shock resistance of 50g, PSENopt II sensors provide protection against shock, collision and vibration and so are suitable for use in rugged industrial environments. The light curtains are suitable for ranges to 55m and can be used to safeguard access to robot cells, packaging machines and presses, for example.

Users decide the physical arrangement of the light curtains. Thanks to the coding, they do not interfere with each other, even in close proximity. Pilz says this is particularly true if the transmitter of the first pair of light curtains emits beams in the direction of the receiver of the second pair of light curtains. In this case, the light curtain pairs can be configured with different beam codes. The coding is integrated into all PSENopt II light curtains.

In order to secure several sides of a hazardous area, the light curtains can be combined with new PSENopt II mirror columns. Up to three sides of a hazardous area can be monitored with one pair of light curtains and two mirror columns.

In conjunction with the configurable control system, PNOZmulti 2, Pilz says it offers an economical solution from one source.
