Nord Drivesystems celebrates its 35th anniversary
16 February 2023
NORD ELECTRIC Drivesystems GmbH celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2023.

For more than 40 years, Nord Drivesystems has been developing drive electronics and is one of the pioneers in innovative inverter technology. At the company's Aurich site in East Frisia, the drive specialist produces electronic drive technology up to 160 kW (inverters, motor starters and electronics).
Pioneer of inverter technology
The manufacturing of drive electronics in Aurich began in the early 1980s. Over time, the production plant and the portfolio were continuously expanded and extended. Nord Electronic Drivesystems GmbH now employs 180 people (plus another 40 people in development) and has a manufacturing capacity of 400,000 units - be it control cabinet inverters or decentralised frequency inverters (up to 22 kW).
Maximum flexibility and individuality in electronic production
The automated and flexible production structure in Aurich is state-of-the-art and allows any size of order to be processed in the same manner. Even small batch sizes are possible thanks to flexible production. In 2022, 185,000 units left the factory, and the trend increases. The demand for customised drive electronics in particular is increasingly strong. To optimally meet the growing demand, Nord invested €2.5 million in the site last year and expanded the area for customer project assemblies to 3,000 sqm, distributed over two levels. In total, the production area is 7,000 sqm and the office area 1,300 sqm.
Further expansion planned
Whether they are operated in Europe, China or the US - every Nord frequency inverter is produced in the Nord production plant in Aurich, East Frisia. "Frequency inverters are a fundamental component of efficient and intelligent drive systems. In Aurich, we can respond quickly and flexibly to customer requirements and market changes and are ideally equipped for the increasing demand," said site manager Gerhard Harms.
However, the expansion plans are far from complete: the purchase of an adjacent site with an area of 1.8 ha will secure the further expansion of the Aurich site.
