Inspiring Innovation, Inclusion, and Industry Collaboration
13 May 2025
Discover how Smart Manufacturing Week 2025 is expanding horizons with an enriched STEM programme, a focus on diversity, cutting-edge technology showcases, and unique experiences that shape the future of manufacturing

SMART MANUFACTURING Week 2025 is set to be the most dynamic edition yet, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and aspiring talent to celebrate and shape the future of manufacturing. This year’s event not only showcases groundbreaking technologies and solutions but also deepens its commitment to inclusivity and education.
The STEM Programme and Inclusion Effort
Recognising that addressing the skills gap starts with inspiring the next generation, Smart Manufacturing Week will once again run its STEM Programme, which has this year been expanded to include school-age students, as well as those in further education. Students and apprentices will have the opportunity to engage directly with people working in the sector, experience live demonstrations, and gain hands-on exposure to the exciting technologies shaping the future of manufacturing. This initiative aims to further develop attendees' interest in STEM careers, providing young people with a more informed understanding of the career opportunities available in engineering and manufacturing.
Beyond encouraging new talent into the sector, SMW 2025 is committed to making manufacturing more inclusive. The event continues to partner with organisations such as WISE (Women into Science and Engineering) and WES (Women’s Engineering Society) to drive gender diversity in STEM careers. Their work is crucial in breaking down barriers and ensuring that manufacturing roles are accessible to a broader talent pool. These organisations will contribute to discussions on attracting and retaining diverse talent, creating inclusive workplaces, and ensuring that women and underrepresented groups are supported.
Exhibitors
Smart Manufacturing Week 2025 will provide attendees with the opportunity to see a range of innovations and product launches from some of the biggest names in the industry. Two key exhibitors of particular interest to IP&E readers are:
Global leader in energy management and automation, Schneider Electric, who will be present and ready to engage with manufacturers and engineers on stand 5-F20 in Smart Factory Expo. Visitors will have the chance to learn about their latest solutions in digital transformation, sustainability, and energy efficiency, helping manufacturers optimise operations and reduce environmental impact.
Leading enterprise software provider, IFS, will also be present and on-hand at Drives and Controls stand 5-C134 to discuss their advanced ERP and asset management solutions, which enable manufacturers to drive operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and streamline production processes.
In addition to the exhibitors above, other exhibitors will showcase new technologies in all areas of the industry. A full list of exhibitors is published as part of this article.
Exploring the Cutting Edge
A highlight of Smart Manufacturing Week, Innovation Alley offers a glimpse into the future of manufacturing by showcasing some of the most promising startups and disruptive small businesses in the sector. Located at the heart of Smart Factory Expo, this dynamic space will feature exciting exhibitors all falling into at least one of four categories. ‘People’ will highlight advancements in workforce management, training, and employee wellbeing, while ‘Product’ will focus on innovation in design, R&D, and materials. ‘Process’ will explore developments in productivity, resilience, AI, and supply chain optimisation, and ‘Planet’ will put the spotlight on sustainable manufacturing, energy management, and net-zero strategies. Manufacturers and engineers with an eye on the future will find Innovation Alley a rewarding space to explore, offering a first look at the technologies and ideas that could play a key role in shaping the industry's future.
Beyond Business
Smart Manufacturing Week offers an exciting mix of innovation, business, and entertainment. As well as live music at the entrance and throughout the event the Guitar Legends competition will return, offering attendees the chance to show off their musical skills, with a custom 3D-printed guitar awarded to the winner. To add to the event's signature festival atmosphere, The Shadow Monkeys will perform high-energy hits at the first evening’s visitor party.
For those with entrepreneurial ambitions, Smart Tank is a new feature designed to inspire and empower innovators. This platform gives entrepreneurs exhibiting in Innovation Alley the opportunity to pitch their business ideas and product concepts to a panel of industry experts, offering valuable exposure and feedback in a dynamic setting, that’s sure to be entertaining for both participants and visitors alike.
While the business side of Smart Manufacturing Week is undoubtedly the most important, there are also opportunities to relax and recharge. The Wellness Area will offer a dedicated space for attendees to take a break, with professionals on hand to provide revitalising treatments. These moments of downtime are designed to help visitors stay refreshed and focused, ensuring they make the most of their time at the event.
