What Manufacturing Can Learn from Formula 1: Guenther Steiner to Deliver Keynote at Smart Manufacturing Week

03 June 2025

GUENTHER STEINER, former Team Principal of the Haas Formula 1 Team and one of the sport’s most recognisable figures, is set to deliver a headline keynote at Smart Manufacturing Week 2025.

Taking place in the event’s Technology Showcase Arena at 2pm on Thursday 5 June at the NEC Birmingham, Steiner will bring unique insight into engineering performance at the very highest level.

Drawing on decades at the sharp end of motorsport, Steiner will explore how Formula 1’s split-second decision-making, extreme reliability demands, and advanced manufacturing processes offer practical lessons for industry. From accelerating design cycles and reducing downtime to ensuring system reliability and managing mission-critical operations, attendees can expect real-world takeaways.

These lessons will be brought to life through candid stories from his time at the helm of a Formula 1 team, offering a window into the world of leading high-pressure, high-tech teams in one of the most demanding environments in sport. From last-minute technical challenges that put entire race weekends at risk to operational challenges that shape the outcome of a season, his stories offer a rare window into managing complexity, speed and scrutiny at the highest level.

This keynote is set to be a highlight of day two at Smart Manufacturing Week, giving manufacturing and engineering professionals across all sectors a rare insight into how elite teams perform under pressure and how those lessons can be applied to the factory floor.
