Specialist in PD (Partial Discharge)
detection equipment, EA Technology
has added a new Contact Probe to its
range. PD is a major cause of
disruptive failures in high voltage
switch gear. This activity comes in
two forms, internal discharge and
surface discharge.
Surface discharge, up till now, has been detected with a directional microphone as ultrasound, requiring a clear air path to obtain reliable readings. The new Contact Probe measures ultrasound through the surface of the switchgear. This means PD activity can now be detected quickly and safely before a disruptive failure occurs.
