Sensors+Systems for Control & Instrumentation is a new
event that will take place at FIVE, Farnborough on 14th and
15th September 2011. IP&E takes a look at what visitors can
expect to find in the way of workshops and exhibitors
Organised by Trident Exhibitions, the exhibition aims to embrace all aspects of control & instrumentation, test & measurement, calibration, data acquisition, automation and analysis, as well as many other industry specific disciplines. In addition to a wide range of exhibitors, the event will host a varied programme of free 1- hour workshops and seminars relevant to today's industry issues. Some 17 different companies are presenting the workshops and will cover a diverse selection of subjects:
14th September - Workshop theatre 1 Glenn Wedgbrow from Micro-Epsilon will be detailing the company's 2D laser scanner with integrated Ethernet for automated inspection and process control Tony Alexander from Honeywell Control Systems will focus on: 'Becoming Wireless'.
The theme for Bahram Arbab of Colibrys (Switzerland) will be: MEMS accelerometers for industry and instrumentation The workshop presented by Justin Leonard of igus has as its theme: 'Cables - the weakest link?' Martin Liniker of Adsyst (Automation) will speak on the subject of Intelligent networks
Workshop theatre 2 Thomas Kleckers of HBM takes as his theme: Piezoelectric transducers - strain gauge based transducers - a comparison The workshop presented by Graham Green, speaking on behalf of National Instruments, will explain How to Harness Cloud Computing for Data Acquisition Ian Ramage of Techni Measure takes as his theme: Strain gauge applications in industry with wireless communication and energy harvesting Dr Robert Angus of Sensors KTN will speak on: The Electronics, Sensors, Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network (ESP KTN) David Ely of CambridgeIC will focus on: An introduction to resonant inductive position sensing Intelligent sensing using multi-functional coatings is the theme of a presentation by Dr J P Feist of Southside Thermal Sciences.
Profibus Group will present: 5 essential factors to consider when implementing Profibus/Profinet Profibus Group will also speak on: automated communications and device monitoring on Profibus networks
Thursday 15th September - Workshop theatre 1 The talks by Micro-Epsilon, Honeywell Control Systems, and Colibrys (Switzerland) will be repeated. In addition: Jan Schlander of Burkert Fluid Controls will speak on: Flow sensors for gases - possibilities of design and system integration Francis Tuffy of NPL takes as his theme: The measurement network - building a community of network users 'The measurement network is the place for people interested in measurement' is the theme of a talk by Peter Benson, Measurement Network Community Administrator
Workshop theatre 2 The talks by National Instruments and Sensors KTN will be repeated. In addition the following workshops will take place: Dirk Moeller of HBM will speak on the subject of: Safe fuselage assembly for modern commercial aircraft Steve Whitaker of Techni Measure presents a workshop on: Design, selection and applications for piezoelectric accelerometers and other sensors Prof. Robert Prance from the University of Sussex will present a workshop on: The electric potential sensor - technology and applications John Weaver of Compostella presents: A 6-degree of freedom interferometer Alison Macdonald and Richard Tabor from PARC will host a workshop on: An introduction to product testing for reliability.
Engineers can choose the subject(s) that interest them and learn the latest sensing and control technique, with the option of questioning an expert face-to-face. After the workshop they can visit the company's stand to view the product and ask further questions.
