The number of people who have achieved one of the UK's most sought after health and safety qualifications could fill Manchester United's football stadium twice over, it has been revealed.

Recently, Sean Minnican, a 26 year old mechanical engineer from Cumbria, became the 150,000th person to gain a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

NEBOSH reports that two thirds of job adverts for health and safety manager roles specify at least one NEBOSH qualification, with well over a third demanding a NEBOSH National General Certificate.

As Sean Minnican explains, a NEBOSH qualification can give people an extra string to their bow: "I sent my CV off after gaining my degree in Mechanical Engineering and got one or two replies," he said.

"As soon as I put NEBOSH on my CV I was offered four different positions straightaway. Now I'm forever getting phone calls and emails asking me to apply for jobs.

My NEBOSH Certificate has certainly opened doors for me."
