More than 1200km of power, control and instrumentation cables will ensure a high degree of safety, reliability and efficiency of surface mining equipment at the Mount Toromocho open-cast copper mine.

Nexans has been awarded a contract to supply cables from its Powermine range for Chinalco's new Mount Toromocho mine in Peru. In co-operation with Anixter USA, its distribution partner for this project, it is providing more than 1200km of cables to the Aker/Jacobs turnkey EPC contractor for the mine.

The cables will power surface mine equipment such as conveyor belts, lighting, power for various buildings, crusher machines, a maintenance concentrator and other surface operations.

The Nexans facility in Canada is supplying 1000km of power, control and instrumentation cables of the type THNN, XHHW, Ultra-VN, Ulytrx-XL and Firex. These cables comply with USA Type National Electric Code specifications. Nexans Chile is supplying 200km of 5 and 15kV medium voltage flexible rubber jacketed power cables.
