Appointed UK distributor

07 July 2014

AcSoft, a specialist in noise and vibration instrumentation and sensors, has been appointed UK distributor for Microflown Technologies, headquartered in the Netherlands.

The Microflown is a MEMs (Micro-Electrical Mechanical Systems) technology-based sensor that can measure acoustic particle velocity, making it suitable for testing applications within the automotive, aerospace and aviation markets. It is also used by universities and government bodies and is suitable for acoustic end of line control.

By measuring the temperature difference across two extremely thin platinum wires placed in parallel, this fast mass flow sensor is capable of monitoring the movement of air particles.

John Shelton, MD at AcSoft says: "The Microflown is one of the most advanced acoustic measurement devices available today, and fits perfectly in the AcSoft portfolio. It will allow us to offer technically innovative testing applications to the automotive and aerospace sectors in particular. We look forward to driving forward in partnership with Microflown Technologies to deliver the best solution for all applications.”

The reduction of cabin interior noise as perceived by passengers and crew and exterior noise as perceived on the ground are of vital importance to the aerospace and aviation industry. As a result, the Microflown sensor platform has been further enhanced to be able to measure in this harsh environment where there are high temperatures and dB levels, as well as the presence of grazing flow.

For these conditions, acoustic particle velocity sensors have been successfully developed for use up to 170dB SPL noise levels and 600°C.

Microflown is suitable for a range of aerospace / aviation testing applications including acoustic hot spot detection, panel noise contribution analysis, in situ acoustic absorption of engine liners under realistic conditions, airport monitoring and wind tunnel testing. In the automotive and transport industries, it can be used for similar testing applications plus acoustic end of line control of vehicle components. This provides the opportunity to increase passenger comfort by making the vehicle more silent and improve product quality, without the need for anechoic conditions.
