Carbon management
20 November 2014
Veolia, the energy and utilities management services provider, is working with Sibelco to supply CHP technology.

The quarrying site in Ivybridge, South Devon, has been equipped with a 1.4MWe CHP system to generate electricity and provide heat for processing a range of materials.
Sibelco, which operates sites throughout the UK, extracts and processes silica sand, ball clay, kaolin and dolomite for applications such as paints, fillers, paper and ceramic raw materials.
Veolia’s CHP system will help save some 2,228 tonnes of CO2 per year, through offsetting grid electricity with the generated CHP capacity and pre-heating the drying process to reduce gas burner usage. The installation is expected to achieve a 10% reduction of the group’s overall emissions.
To effectively use the heat from the CHP, and transfer this to the drying process, Cogenco, Veolia’s specialist CHP team, installed heat exchangers in the make-up air to the process dryer.
