Displaying a message

Messagemaker’s LED displays are managed via a PC or PLC. Developer integration software is supplied with the system which allows precise configuration to suit individual requirements.

Displays can be programmed to automatically relay messages and updates in real-time. The robust construction of the LED displays has been developed to withstand the harshest of operating environments, from chemical processing and marine applications to swimming pools.
Harry Filer, Messagemaker MD, says: “As specialist suppliers, we are able to supply displays to meet a wide range of specifications, from small signs to large formats that are visible over long distances, to include bespoke requirements.”
One company which uses Message maker’s LED displays is Charger Bay Solutions a specialist in forklift and electric vehicle battery care and management.
In addition to deionised water production equipment, automatic battery topping systems and chargers, Charger Bay Solutions manufacture the CBS Battery Allocation System (BAS) which is used to manage fork lift battery fleets where batteries are changed on the trucks and charged in racks to allow 24/7 operation of the truck fleet.
The BAS system which monitors the battery chargers and works on a FCFO (First Charged First Out) basis incorporates Messagemaker LED displays to notify the truck driver which battery should be taken for use next.
If no charged batteries are available, the system reverts to FIFO (First In First Out) operation. This two-tier method ensures that all batteries get used equally and if no fully charged batteries are available, the battery with the most power is allocated for use.
The tri-colour LED that CBS uses shows charged batteries in green, batteries that are nearly ready in yellow and batteries that are still charging in red. In addition to allocating the battery to be taken, the LED also shows in red the number of active alarms and the location of the faulty chargers.
Phil Wiseman, MD at Charger Bay Solutions, adds: “In 2009 when the BAS system was being developed, we looked for a supplier of LED displays who had the product to meet our requirements and could give technical support to help us integrate the product into our own system.
“Messagemaker were able to fulfil both of these important requirements and over the 6 years we have been dealing with them, we have found both sales and technical support to be excellent."
