How Do You Improve one of Industry’s Best-loved Sensors
19 September 2017
Answer - make it even better: SICK’s KT5 contrast sensor is one of the most commonly-used and depended-upon registration sensors in industry. Now, SICK has introduced the KTS and KTX contrast sensors to set a new benchmark.

SICK’s KT5 contrast sensors have long been an industry standard for detection of registration marks and customers can now upgrade to the more compact KTS or to the KTX, which incorporates the upgraded technology benefits into the same housing size as the KT5.
The new sensors represent a technology breakthrough in detection accuracy and switching frequency speed in both sheet- and reel-fed production, even in challenging conditions.
The KTS & KTX have built-in IO-Link to enable quick and easy sensor teach-in and commissioning, as well as flexibility in batch manufacturing: Product changes can be identified and new parameter settings automatically triggered with little or no interruption.
The sensors incorporate SICK’s pioneering Twin-Eye Technology® for improved contrast detection with better depth of field and a wider sensing distance tolerance. The greater grey-scale sensitivity means even better sensing of monochrome or colour registration marks, even on high gloss packaging.
With a range of “core” and “prime” options, customers can choose different levels of functionality to suit their needs. With up to 70kHz switching frequency and down to 3µsec jitter rate (a level of performance never previously achieved) the KTS and KTX are easily capable of coping with up to 250 packs per minute and compensating for high-speed flutter on reel-to-reel material edges.
