Tradition with a new lease
18 January 2019
Machines for polishing and surface conditioning have been around since the industrial revolution and are based on a powered rotating spindle on which is mounted a mop or consumable abrasive media.

Surtech says two UK companies have traditionally manufactured these machines with rotor motor windings that were laden with copper and appeared over-specified in design for their quoted power. For this reason, it believes traditional polishing machines have survived despite improved technology providing smaller motors which conversely, it says, were more susceptible to burnout when used continuously under heavy loads.
However, Surtech believes the traditional polishing machine is now in its end of life cycle and, in response to industry demand, it has introduced a replacement. The new machine is built on a robust heavy duty cast iron body for heat dissipation and is available in a range of options for motor power, speed and operational safety. Electrical equipment is industry standard, guarding is heavy duty steel with connections for dust extraction. The robust specification claims a 10 year guarantee for the motor windings.
