Maintec features diverse educational programme

06 June 2023

MAINTEC, ONE of the centrepiece exhibitions of Manufacturing and Engineering Week taking place on 7-8 June at Birmingham’s NEC, is set to feature a comprehensive educational programme.

With a dedicated Keynote Theatre, sponsored by RS, as well as Solutions Theatre presentations, the free-to-attend programme is incredibly diverse in the subject matter it covers. All information can be viewed at: www.mandeweek.co.uk/conference-agenda

The Maintec programme includes several ‘firsts’ such as the first public output from the Maintenance Research Project. This session will provide the initial results from the Industry in Motion report created by RS Maintenance and the IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers), that reveals the current challenges facing maintenance professionals within UK manufacturing. This report contains key statistics and data taken from interviews with over 750 senior maintenance professionals.

The Maintec Keynote Theatre will also see the launch of a Global Responsibility Competency Compass by Engineers Without Borders UK. The Compass is for those who are struggling to respond effectively to the complexity, uncertainty and challenges of the age. The action-oriented tool, developed through extensive consultation and testing, articulates the essential skills, knowledge and mindsets that engineers increasingly need to deliver the most positive impact on the four principles of global responsibility: responsible, purposeful, inclusive and regenerative.

Airbus Space and Defence bring us the intriguingly titled: How to create a maintenance strategy when your product is in space? During which visitors will discover the creative ways to maintain products that are off planet, how downtime is being eliminated, the ways in which the best possible sustainable model is being adhered to and the challenges surrounding such a task.

A session that highlights the big changes that are taking place in relation to maintenance is How to use AI and advanced technology to improve maintenance which will start off the morning on Day 2.  With the increased move towards smart factories and applying digitalisation to improve every process and site function this session shows how maintenance will change as this becomes more common place.

Sessions also include case studies so that attendees can learn from their peers. One example, from LISI Aerospace, is How can you get the best out of your most important asset, your people? With the shortage of skills and the number of young people looking at maintenance as a career being at an all-time low this case study talks through the successful strategy employed by 2023 MX Awards People and Skills Winner, LISI Aerospace. How they started their process, how they got buy in from staff and senior management and the benefits they've seen across the board.

Running concurrently to the Keynote Theatre presentations is a full line up of Solutions Theatre speakers that dig deep into recurring topics of interest such as Utilising Ultrasound in the IIOT; Reliability in Design - The Approach and the Advantages or 5 steps to 0 downtime in 100 days.
