UK etching specialist wins major filter contract for premium German appliance manufacturer
10 October 2025
PRECISION MICRO, a UK-based chemical etching specialist, has been contracted to supply etched stainless-steel filters for a leading German brand's high-end appliance line, with production set to begin in November.

The filters will be integrated into subsystems in Germany before final assembly by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
The new stainless-steel filters replace previous versions manufactured from plastic. The switch to metal will ensure that these appliances will deliver long-lasting reliability, a key factor in the brand’s reputation for high-end products.
Each filter is made from 100 microns-thick stainless steel and contains hundreds of perforations, all of which must meet precise alignment and geometric accuracy, with annual output expected to reach around half a million units.
Creating intricate features in thin metal sheets is achieved through chemical etching, a process that removes material using a controlled chemical reaction rather than stamping or machining.
Compared with stamping, which requires heavy, expensive press tooling and often longer lead times, etching can produce hundreds of tiny perforations accurately and burr-free. This makes it ideal for high-volume, precision components where both performance and appearance matter.
Achieving this level of precision has been supported by significant investment in automation. Over £6m has been spent on advanced production lines, helping ensure components are consistent while reducing manual handling and the risk of errors.
