Huntingdon Fusion Techniques has
published a four-page leaflet about
Weld Backing Tape. The product is
placed on the backside of a weld to
help save costs. Three different
grades are available to permit arc
welding up to 240A.
The benefits of using a backing tape include negating the need to manufacture expensive backing bars and to manipulate them in tight spaces, and reduced requirement for post weld dressing and cleaning.
The weld is cast flat on to the glass fibre weave, eliminating drop through and icicles, while slag and massive oxidation are also eliminated. Simple to use, the material can be effectively worked with by lower skilled welding personnel.
