After seeing the benefits offered by NOV Mono's EZstrip transfer pump at one of the company's UK roadshows last summer, Thames Water has installed one to improve efficiency and reduce downtime at Beckton sewage treatment works.

The EZstrip progressing cavity pump, which has been mounted vertically, has been installed in a pump station to transfer returned sludge to the buffer tanks at a capacity of 90m3/h and a delivery pressure of 4 bar.

It has been designed to provide an easy way to disassemble, de-rag and maintain a PC pump, eliminating the costly maintenance and down time that servicing can often cause.

The pump's chamber has a twopiece design which can be opened in less than 1min, suction chamber and rotating parts de-ragged and the chamber reassembled with a spanner and an Allen key. The operation takes less than 2.5min, depending on the severity of the rag blockage.

The pump can be installed into new plants or retrofitted to existing Mono Compact C installations. No electrical disconnection is required.
