Fire safe flexible conduits
21 March 2014
Flexicon has supplied industrial fan manufacturer, Fläkt Woods, with high specification cable protection for the installation of powerful ventilation fans for the Marmaray tunnel rail project in Turkey, which links the European and Asian shores of Istanbul passing underneath the Bosporous Strait.

The fans are design to operate at up to 300°C for up to two hours, allowing evacuation in the event of a fire. During such an incident it is vital to protect the supply cabling, to keep the fans running. Flexicon’s low fire hazard (LFHU) conduit was selected to protect the fans power cables against the potential high temperatures.
The flexible conduit within the fans also needed to provide protection in hazardous areas. Flexicon’s LTP conduit system, with EXD barrier glands were able to meet the ATEX and IEC Ex approvals needed.
