Pumps prove efficient mix
19 March 2014
With a history dating back to 1830, the manufacturing process has dramatically changed since Robert McVitie opened his first shop in Edinburgh; today McVitie’s is part of United Biscuits and operates from five sites across the UK, with its Harlesden site producing 23 million biscuits a day.

A production process involving abrasive liquids with a very high viscosity puts pressure on the process pumps. Back in 2009 the incumbent pumps were frequently experiencing leaks that required repairs every 6 to 7 weeks, so there was considerable interest when Grundfos Pumps made contact and introduced the company to the Grundfos NOVAlobe concept.
NOVAlobe rotary lobe pumps are designed to provide reliable, efficient and hygienic operation even under the most demanding conditions. They will pump very viscose media and meet the highest hygiene standards, including achieving EHEDG accreditation.
Today McVitie’s continues to replace pumps with Grundfos NOVAlobe pump options.
