Field-of-view calculator added to website
01 June 2016
IRISS, manufacturer of industrial grade infrared windows for thermal imaging inspection, has just added a new customer service tool to its website. As a companion to its Return on Investment (ROI) calculator, that factors in every cost involved in running a preventative thermal imaging programme with and without the benefit of windows, visitors will now also find a field-of-view (FOV) calculator.

This is useful for anyone seeking guidance on how many infrared windows are required for their specific application and what diameter of window would be the most appropriate. The answers to both of these questions lie in the FOV of the camera, the lens attachment (if used) and the IR window.
By entering the thermal imaging camera specifications and the cabinet dimensions, the FOV calculator will provide an indication of the maximum FOV obtainable by the optimum IRISS polymer window.
To use the calculator to find the viewable cabinet area, simply select your brand of IR camera from the pull-down menu and then the model number. Next, input the appropriate viewing angles – horizontal and vertical – and the tool will automatically calculate the fixed FOV in both planes and also the maximum FOV.
By selecting the button for the IR window size required, this FOV data will then be carried forward to the next screen. Finally, input the dimensions of the target area you wish to see and the FOV calculator will recommend the most appropriate size of IRISS product for the job.
