Infrared and ultrasound inspections
25 April 2016
IRISS has developed and now supplies a range of Electrical Maintenance Safety Devices that allow infrared, ultraviolet, ultrasound and visual inspection of live systems. Collectively, they are said to help to keep the workplace safe and to improve profitability through greater plant reliability.

The company has conducted thermal inspections for many UK companies, for which it employs a team of thermographers using high resolution infrared cameras to spot the smallest thermal anomalies. Now it has announced that it is underpinning this service with the addition of ultrasound inspection.
Excess heat is generally a good indication that an electrical or mechanical system is not working optimally and the role of infrared is therefore to provide a thermal image of any hotspots. Arcing, tracking and corona are also signs of potential failure and these are all detectable by ultrasound.
David Smith, EMEA business development manager for IRISS, comments: “By offering a combination of the two inspection methods, we have everything covered. From our own experience, we know this formula significantly improves predictive maintenance efficiency. It gives our customers every confidence that the utmost has been done to ensure their systems won’t let them down.”
