Apprentice training programme proves a hit

Despite opening less than one year ago, more than 30 young local residents applied for a place in Dawson Shanahan’s engineering training school. With four places available, the firm has awarded places to three first year apprentices and one Level 3 apprentice. This takes the number of apprentices currently on the programme to eight.

Starting at the end of August, the four new apprentices will develop the skills, knowledge and experience required to accelerate their careers in today’s fast-moving world of engineering. They’ll be working alongside experienced engineers, on real projects, learning about both the theoretical and practical sides of engineering. This is combined with studying at local colleges, so they can earn while they learn.

“Everyone here at Dawson Shanahan is absolutely delighted with the incredible demand we’ve experienced for our apprentice training programme,” commented joint MD, Les Reeves. “We received many strong applications, from which we’ve carefully selected four apprentices.”

“It’s great to see so many young people want to enter engineering. We’re at capacity at the moment, but we hope to increase the number of places we can offer in the future. For now, though, we’re looking forward to our new apprentices joining us at the end of summer and getting their engineering education under way."
