Demonstrating digital credentials at Drives & Controls
20 March 2018
Exhibiting at Drives & Controls (NEC Birmingham, 10th to 12th April), ABB is demonstrating its credentials as a digital champion by showing examples of how established and installed products like variable speed drives (VSDs) and low voltage electric motors can be used as an integral part of the smart factory.

On show will be the ABB Ability Smart Sensor for low voltage electric motors. The low-cost sensor can be attached, without wires, to any low voltage motor and, by measuring key parameters such as heat and vibration, is able to let the operator know in advance of any motor issues.
Also on display will be the latest, fully digital VSDs, many of which work with the synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM), a product that is said to be quieter, more efficient and reliable than its traditional induction motor counterpart. Meanwhile, the latest motion control drives, PLCs and HMIs will feature in a series of live demos for labelling, mixing and material handling machines.
Many of the VSDs on show benefit from the latest cloud-based services that include ABB Ability Remote Assistance, ABB Ability Condition Monitoring and ABB Ability Predictive Maintenance, the latter of which brings new levels of preventive maintenance to critical applications. Stand D707
